– a curated collection of 20 vintage artworks –
One of my favourite ways to update our home for the season is by switching out art prints. While there are countless print shops selling downloadable vintage art, the truth is many of these prints are available online, for free, thanks to public domain artworks.
You can find literally thousands of high-resolution artworks available in the public domain to update your gallery wall or Frame TV.

WHAT IS PUBLIC DOMAIN ART?
What is public domain art? In short, it’s artworks whose copyright has expired.
When a person creates a work of art, copyright is automatically granted to them. Copyright protection lasts for the lifetime of the artist plus an additional 50 to 100 years after their death (exact term varies by country). Once this period is over the copyright expires and the artwork passes into the public domain. This means anyone can use it freely, for personal or commercial purposes, without copyright infringement.

HOW TO PRINT THE ART
Printing your art can be done easily & inexpensively through a local print shop or larger outlet such as Staples or Fedex. Pick a matte paper, even better is a linen or textured paper to really mimic the look of a true oil painting.
I use thrifted frames for my art prints; not only are they beautiful & aesthetically appropriate for vintage art, typically they can be picked up for just a few dollars.
These prints are available as high resolution downloads which means you could even have them printed on canvas for a more permanent art piece.
LOOKING FOR MORE PUBLIC DOMAIN ART?
If you are looking for more public domain art my favourite sources are useum.org and wikimedia commons.
