Creating an aesthetic playroom is as easy as 1-2-3
Does the thought of a visually chaotic room make you cringe? Same girl, same. Over the years I’ve realized that clutter-free spaces make me feel at ease. For me, physical clutter translates to mental clutter.
And our playroom is no exception. We’ve gone through many iterations of our playroom as our kids have grown (currently ages 4 & 6), and over the years I’ve refined what it takes to create a functional playroom that is beautiful too. The functional requirements of everyday living needn’t get in the way of creating a home that you love!

The 3 essential ingredients of an aesthetic playroom:
- Secondhand furniture
- A large storage piece with simple bins/bags
- Washable rugs
1. SECONDHAND FURNITURE
By utilizing secondhand furniture you won’t cringe over every scratch & ding. You can find incredible pieces for a steal of a deal on Facebook Marketplace or at local secondhand stores. That gorgeous table (just look at the leg details!) you see in the picture above? I bought that for $50 on Facebook Marketplace, and the chairs I snagged for free.
2. BIG & BEAUTIFUL STORAGE
This large cabinet discretely holds alllll our kid’s activities- books, puzzles, games, art supplies, dress up clothes, playdoh, Lego, race cars, etc.!
To keep the inside organized but easy to use I’ve utilized simple boxes for craft supplies, baskets for dress up clothes and toys, and zippered bags for lego sets and other items with small pieces. Lots of games, puzzles, & craft sets are in their original boxes too – I’m going for easy & functional, not an aesthetic organizational masterpiece.
3. WASHABLE RUGS
I think a rug in the playroom is such a wonderful addition – playing on the floor is what playrooms are all about after all! But we all know that that rug is 100% getting marker, playdoh and snacks all over it.
Washable rugs are such a game changer and come in so many beautiful styles. We use them in our playroom, entryway, and kitchen. They’re the style MVP of these hard-working family spaces!
And really, that’s all there is to it! Creating a beautiful space needn’t be complicated or overwhelming. Utilize these 3 simple tips & you’ll be able to create a playroom you love to look at & your kids love to play in.
